Overview:
America's most important cycling race, the Amgen Tour of California is a unique, eight-day “rolling festival” through California that has already become one of the nation’s largest and most recognized annual special events. This international, Tour de France-style bicycle road race features elite professional cycling teams from around the world competing for the highest prize purse of any cycling race in North America. The race also will be the focal point of cultural festivals and recreational events in cities and towns across the state.
When & Where:
Scheduled over eight consecutive days from February 18-25, 2007, the Amgen Tour of California will showcase more than 650 miles of scenic California highways, roadways and coastline drives. Host cities include: San Francisco, Sausalito, Santa Rosa, Sacramento, Stockton, San Jose, Seaside, San Luis Obispo, Solvang, Santa Barbara, Santa Clarita and Long Beach.
Teams:
Teams and riders participating in the second annual race will include Tour de France competitors, world champions and Olympic medalists.

Attendance:
The 2006 Amgen Tour of California drew more than 1.3 million spectators from February 19-26, setting records in attendance for any single sporting event in California, as well as for any cycling event in the U.S. It is expected that the second annual race will surpass last year's attendance numbers, once again setting a new precedent for the sport. Additionally, fans and enthusiasts from across the U.S. and around the world will be able to tune in via television broadcast and online updates at www.amgentourofcalifornia.com.
Economic Impact:
The 2006 Amgen Tour of California and related activities had an estimated $100 million economic impact on the participating host cities throughout the course of the race.
Festival:
The Amgen Tour of California will once again feature a free Lifestyle Festival in each finish city that will feature a health & fitness expo, cycling gear, family activities, bike safety and entertainment.
